For the past week I have been living in a village called Lat Yao. By far one of my favorite experiences/ministries in Thailand was the house visits I did there. During the day, my team and I would do Christmas outreach in a few different schools around the area. At night, we visited a few locals that lived in the countryside.
The house visit that hit me the hardest was the first one. She was a blind woman. When we pulled up she was lying in her hammock under a hut. Dressed to the nines for her special visitors that she rarely receives. She began with her testimony. She spoke it with such light and joy. She climbed many mountains that not many of us would dare to climb. Courage radiated from her soul. No one around her in her family is a Christian but she stands completely steadfast in her love for the Lord – the one who saved her and gave her LIFE. A life that not many of us would desire to have…She sits at home because she doesn’t really have the means of getting around. The beautiful thing about that is that she completely and utterly devotes every moment and hour of her life to God. She soaks up the Word and quenches it with every part of her being. She prays without ceasing. God is her everything – Her every breath. I don’t know about you but that is LIFE. LIFE AT THE PUREST FORM. Something I crave to strive towards…shouldn’t we all?
She wanted to sing us a song…It was an old hymn in Thai. Everything was quiet around us as my team and I sat under the hut with her while she praised her KING with everything in her. It was one of the most beautiful and intimate moments I have experienced. Although, she did not have a "rock star" voice…She completely embraced it and gave it her all. I am pretty confident in that moment that God was looking down upon His DAUGHTER dancing around His throne out of pure adoration. Chills ran throughout my entire body and I felt the spirit fully. Joy was overflowing inside of my spirit and heart. She was a true inspiration. A complete woman of FAITH. Raw faith. She chooses every day to praise God despite her circumstances. And not just praise Him but PRAISE him with everything that she is.
As we were saying our goodbyes to her she said, “I do not have to eat tonight, I am already full.” I can’t express enough how hard those few words hit me like a ton of bricks. She was so spiritually full that she did not need an ounce of food. The desires of her human body were overpowered by the freedom that Christ freely gives. She was solely satisfied in God. “…guilty people, whose OWN strength is their god.” – – > Habakkuk 1:11. I don’t know about you but that is pretty convicting to me…I like to say I rely on God for my everything…but do I really? Do I just spit out worthless words or do I actually LIVE them out?
